Symantec Endpoint Protection Client Keeps Rolling Back

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Hello and greetings to all:

Recently I had an issue installing SEP 12.x RU6 on a Windows 10 workstation.  This solution should work on Windows 7, 8.x, and 10.  Each time i tried to install it using a deployment package, it would get down to 1 or 2 seconds remaining, sit there for a while then it would start adding more time, then it would suddenly go to 0 and would just sit there for a while and then nothing.

I tried several other ways to install it, remote push, deployment package, unmanaged client, nothing would work.  But alas, after days of screwing around with it just when I was about to give up I followed several pieces of advice that I found on the internet.  Here's what I did.

1.  Go into programs and features and uninstall any Norton or Symantec software

2.  Put the Symantec Endpoint Protection software CD in and go to the tools\cleanwipe folder.

3.  Copy the cleanwipe folder to your desktop (We'll delete it later)

4.  Open the cleanwipe folder and run cleanwipe.exe.

5.  Check the boxes to uninstall everything.

6.  Once completed, run the Norton Removal Tool (even if you don't have any Norton software).  You can download it from https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

7.  Reboot the computer.

8.  Once it's back up, go into the Program Files, Program Files(x86), and Program Data folders and delete anything Symantec or Norton related.  If something won't delete you'll have to boot to safe mode to delete it.

9.  Disable your connection to the Internet (you will be extremely vulnerable if you don't).

10.  Go into the control panel and turn off Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and User Access Control (UAC)

11.  Now go back to the CD and install an unmanaged client and reboot if necessary.

12.  Import the Sylink.xml file into the unmanaged client to make it become managed.  Follow these directions on how to do that from https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/sylinkreplacer-tool-connecting-sep-clients-sepm

Once all of this is done, reboot the computer again to ensure that all services are started properly.  If you used the Sylink replacer tool correctly you should see a green light on the SEP shield in the bottom right toolbar.  Once you have the green light, go ahead and delete the folder(s) that were placed on your desktop.  Hope this helps and may God bless all of you.
