Scanning Documents Programmatically

I need a solution

We have exposed a web service to intranet users to upload documents (.pdf, .doc, .xls, .jpg, etc).

These documents are then stored in a document repository.

Before storing these documents, we need to scan those for viruses or malicious code.

Our server has Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit OS and it already has Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1.4100.4126.

We are looking for certain APIs to scan these files programmatically from Java / .Net.

The APIs should use the underlying SEP so that we don't have to maintain the signature updates / product upgrades.

While searching for the APIs, we came across Symantec Scan Engine (SSE) link. (http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=cs)

But the setup on the link is of 32-bit OS and not getting installed on our 64-bit server.

Meanwhile we came across a link (http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/next-generation-scan-engine-technology-released-october-1st) which tells that Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) is kind of replacing SSE. Also SPE has two types, one for Cloud and one for NAS.

So we are confused which product is right fit for our requirement.

Please help.
