Clients running out-of-date versions of EP

87 out of 150 clients are currently running out of date clients. When I run the command 'update content' the report says that it executes successfully but the 87 servers still say they are out of date.

I've confirmed on the hosts themselves that they are running a dated version of the client, going onto the host and manually running the 'Fix now' option does update the host and it shows that it is updated on the management server. Is there any way to automate this task of updating the clients or will I have to do it manually? Is there something I need to fix on the management server to get this working?

I saw that there is the inelegant updater but this has to be run on the clients which I’m hoping to avoid.
